.XXX is now a valid domain! (pr0n c0cktail thr3ad)

At the moment there's only the one and that happens to be the domain of the people who sell the domains.

I remember a thread here at some point which discussed whether or not it would be a good thing to have porn 'set aside' on it's own domain or if that was even achievable. Searching didn't bring it up though, however some valid points were made about whether or not porn should share the same neck of the woods as other industries.

I don't know whether or not it should but now it can and I'm sure there'll be a killing to be made for buying up these domains at ten dolla' per year.

I know this is the OFT (or OTF for you pedants) but guildwars.xxx could be amusing

Would companies buy their branded name to stop if from being potentially abused?

Will laws come into being which stops porn being shown outside of that top level domain?

Any and all thoughts on porn and the future of the internet are welcome (Please stay within the terms of the site though and keep it relatively clean).

If they wanted to keep things separated, it would have been better if they had that domain name a lot earlier. It'd be troublesome for all those sites to change their domain names, and rerouting from older ones means those still couldn't be used.

It's not that there's an Internet Police going around telling them to change the domain name and that they can't have a .com or .net domain name. They tend to have names that give away their "business model" easily enough anyway. Except maybe http://www.penisland.net/|||There's a few companies who've made that mistake Jack; Masterbaitonline.com, Therapist.com to name but two. The TLD .Co.ck has oodles of fun attached to it.

Should porn sites get 'first dibs' on their .xxx alternate domain?

Just kidding... I thought .xxx had already become a valid domain but apparently I didn't know everything related to the issue yet.|||Quote:

Oh, don't worry. They'll c... uh, show up soon enough.|||rofl Someone made a Guild Wars video to that song too. Oh boy...well, I guess in a way it's good that pr0n gets its own domain, because if you accidentally make a typo and get one of those sites by mistake, well, that shouldn't happen now. haha|||I believe websites with pornographic content are obligated to have a huge warning site you have to go through before actually entering, but I'm not certain whether it's enforced or more voluntary.|||I'm not so sure if the xxx-domain is such a good idea. It makes it much easier to block all adult sites that use the domain This means that probably most adult sites that use the xxx-domain lose a lot of visitors, because certainly a lot of asian countries will instantly block access to anything that ends with xxx.|||True...

But it also makes it easier for parents to make sure that content isn't seen by underage children and it ensures that less-than-savvy folks don't end up with the content by accident (or "by accident").

I'm more worried about the asian countries losing pr0n than I am about the sites losing visitors.
