Class3

I don't know if anyone here has been paying attention to the people who left ArenaNet to work at UndeadLabs, but they've finally released some information about their project.

Class 3, referring to a class 3 zombie outbreak (refer to the zombie survival guide for more info on that), is an Xbox Live Arcade Title that will put you in a world where mankind is an endangered species. You lead a team of survivors around the world trying to survive in the zombie infested world.

The initial idea was to create an MMO based on that context but apparently that has been put on the backburner for now. The MMO project, called Class 4, is meant to be the prequel to that vision and also a way to test many of the new game mechanics.

You can read a lot about their vision in the latest news post up on their site. I was just curious what people here thinkt about what the former ANet employees have been up to.|||Checked the rude QA. Sounds good. I've actually thought of purchasing a 360 for Live Arcade before, this might push me over the edge.

For those interested, I think the rude shows some reasons why UndeadLabs split off from ANet.|||Yeah I heard some info on this yesterday on Kotaku, didn't see the site though.

It looks sweet, day one purchase for sure.

Yeah, the rude Q&A is pretty cool. I like how it's actually so much more personal and gives off who they are as opposed to normal PR interviews.

When will Class3 be released?

Dammit, didn’t I just say, “far sooner”? And wasn’t that enough? ;)

It’s always nice to say “when it’s ready,” but that phrase has been getting thrown around a lot these days — often for purposes other than expressing a true commitment to quality — and basically means “no comment."

I feel like this was a dig at Anet.|||Looked quickly on the internet, but failed to find link describing what class 3 is. Please link or describe.

Also, random comments:

1) bored of so much zombies and vampires, I want original

2) want to know more about conflict that made them leave ANet

3) making a game as a test trial for another sounds like a good strategy, but not one I'd advertise|||Quote:

You could have tried the link in the OP?

It is a zombie survival game where you try and survive against zombies. It sounds like Minecraft with less building and more guns to me, at the moment.

PS: I'm tired of people saying they're tired of zombies.|||Yeah yeah, but what's Phase 2?

Phase 1: Collect underpants.

Phase 2: ...

Phase 3: Profit!

Call me lazy, I didn't see "class 3" described in this page. Sounds like several levels of zombie invasion, class 3 refers to?

PS: it looks like UndeadLabs has a winner if they can pull that off though. Tired of zombies or not, if the game is good I'll join in.|||Quote:

According to the zombie survival guide, there are 4 classes of zombie outbreaks. A class 1 outbreak involves a handful to a dozen zombies affecting a remote community with local law enforcement handling the outbreak rather swiftly.

A class 2 outbreak refers to a wider scale outbreak where a larger community is attacked and subjugated and the army needs to be called in to suppress the outbreak. An example of a class 2 outbreak would be something like the first Dead Rising.

A class 3 outbreak refers to a large scale outbreak where several major cities are overtaken and the army struggles to keep things under control. An example of a class 3 outbreak would be a game like Left 4 Dead where most of the eastern seaboard has been taken over by the infected but the army still has control over the other side of the Mississippi River.

A class 4 outbreak refers to a state where there is no outright resistance to the infection because the infection has affected the whole world and only several loosely scattered bands of survivors remain in remote locations. Governments around the world have collapsed and the few survivors that remain struggle to survive in the world ruled by the dead.

I do see some connections between the ideal of Class 3 and GW 2 however. Both for example promise a dynamic world where choices matter and sadly both lack a release date.|||Quote:

"Im sure thats great if youre Blizzard, but if youre trying to make a truly innovative MMO experience you wind up spending more time explaining what your game is not, rather than what it is."

"Were not trying to Change the MMO industry forevar!! or make that case that the console is a superior gaming platform for online worlds or any other kind of game."

The comment you quoted isn't really Anet specific. Like Strain said, everyone uses that sentence right now, it normally just means: "We are wallowing in money without doing anything".
