Thoughts?|||First off, Network is a fantastic movie. Anyone who hasn't seen it should.
The super congress idea from everything I've read about it does sound pretty stupid. The US government is useless as well. There's too much money gone into buying votes and letting large multinational companies pretty much do what they want. The people aren't represented anymore. Laws and policy are bought. It's pretty evident everyday. I'm sure people will call the right of left to blame for this but, I don't think this is it at all. It's a problem of power. It's in the hands of too few. Pulling it back from where it is should be a totally non partisan movement because it is non partisan problem. It's screwing everyone but, a very, very small minority.|||Quote:

Are there thoughts needed?
Olby is now desperate to get eyeballs. Hunger is a great motivator, and AlGore might close the purse strings.

OMFG, Giggles is a Tea Party fascist! GET HIM (Her)!|||He was pretty over the top in that segment. It wasn't really called for. The beginning of the piece was the worst. Name calling like that isn't productive.|||Quote:

And yet y'all wonder why I laugh so?
EDIT - Whence the 'new tone'?|||I prefer the parts where he sticks to the facts. Just pointing out what politicians do wrong is easy. Being objective about it is harder but more satisfying. That's why I don't care much for shows like this.
I mean, all I got from Olby is that the far left isn't happy with this. Big deal. The far left (and far right) are unhappy about everything anyway.
I need Stewart now.|||Dude, you name call all the time. Stop being so hypocritical. You call out almost everyone that doesn't directly agree with everything you say as being a hypocrite and you do it yourself all the time. Even as obscure Age is at times, I have an easier time following him more then you.
Everyone got screwed from this deal. The democrats look like wimps for backing down and the republicans look like tools for not reinstating some of the taxes to the wealthy. It looks to me that some of the tea party folks were doing everything they could to make Obama look like a tool. Right when everyone should be coming together in a difficult situation for the good of the country, a bunch of people on both sides were playing partisan politics. It's not constructive.|||Quote:

This right here is the best assessment of the whole situation. Everyone got screwed. And I would have said Lefties got screwed hardest because Obama is supposed to be on our side but we've known for a long time that Obama either doesn't want to or doesn't have the balls to stand up for what needs to be done. But in the end, the average person got screwed whether you're right or left.|||Obama can't exactly give a timeout to those who don't play fair, and strike a deal with the rest. I don't know how much power Obama really had in this whole mess, but I get the impression that he had less actual control than we'd like to think.|||Quote:

He's shown a pattern of very poor negotiation skills (either that or he's not really a Democrat like he says he is) with the Republican Party throughout his term. This deal, for example, he threw in cuts to social security and medicare even though the Republicans, towards the end did not demand them.
