New Hampshire's new Republican state House speaker is pretty clear about what he thinks of college kids and how they vote. They're "foolish," Speaker William O'Brien said in a recent speech to a tea party group.
"Voting as a liberal. That's what kids do," he added, his comments taped by a state Democratic Party staffer and posted on YouTube. Students lack "life experience," and "they just vote their feelings."
New Hampshire House Republicans are pushing for new laws that would prohibit many college students from voting in the state - and effectively keep some from voting at all.
One bill would permit students to vote in their college towns only if they or their parents had previously established permanent residency there - requiring all others to vote in the states or other New Hampshire towns they come from. Another bill would end Election Day registration, which O'Brien said unleashes swarms of students on polling places, creating opportunities for fraud.
Stupid kids, they shouldn't be allowed to vote! I mean women being allowed to vote was bad enough. And don't get me started on those minorities.
But seriously, this proposed bill is using the same shady tactic that the Grandfather clause used to prohibit blacks from voting.|||For what it's worth, I always went through the trouble of sending in an absentee ballot.|||By far the best part of the article: "Backers of the voting measures say they would bring fairness and restore confidence in a voting system vulnerable to fraud." I just can't wait to see someone defend this on these grounds. Disenfranchising voters to restore confidence and fairness. I hope I get to see heads actually explode.|||Stoopid kids up to their eyeballs in educational debt so they can be useful members of society. Probably want to buy houses at reasonable prices too, and get basic benefits in the workplace like dental and medical insurance...and holidays (pah!).
Their parents should own permanent residence at their university or college, should only be Caucasian and preferably misogynists too.
If we'd enforced this before then maybe we wouldn't have a black man with some socialist ideals running the country.
Bring back the good ol' boys!

*This entire post was satire meant to reflect my stance against this type of action.*|||Lol, really? Really?! William O'Brien, great public relation skills, hurr hurr.|||Could they not be so blatant about their fraud?
"This democratic votes against us. What shall we do?"
"IMPEACH! ... oh wait, wrong rally cry ..."|||I love how he says "they just vote their feelings." I'm sorry, doesn't almost everyone vote that way? I know he meant it as a derisive comment, but, one way or another, you're voting what you "feel" even if that feeling is only "I feel this is right". At least he clearly follows his own rules and isn't using his feelings to make statements like this at all /sarcasm
Back when Obama was running for election and the bigotry of some Republicans came apparent, I used to think that the GOP would, within a couple of decades, basically fall apart and no one would take them seriously anymore. I never imagined a third party would arise and take most of the crazy rights and put them in one place. Now I hope that, one day, we have normal lefts and normal rights in an actual bi-partisan political system who can actually get along, treat each other civilly, and act like adults. I guess we'll need a "crazy left party" first, though...|||What's the problem here? I don't think people are really qualified to vote until they've sampled real life for a while, which a good many college kids certainly haven't yet. At that stage, they're still in party mode. They're idealistic and immature.
Nevertheless, I don't think it should fly by any means, nor will it. Voting age is 21 and should stay that way, regardless. If they change their viewpoints later on in life, they will be supplanted by more upcoming idealists. And so it goes, a slice of real Americana. It works for me just the way it is. If you're going to refuse college-age kids the right to vote, what next? Cutting off the voting age at 60 to make sure nobody with Alzheimer's might get into the mix?|||I thought voting age was 18?|||Yeah, voting age is 18, unless I missed something lol
What's wrong with being idealistic? I think that only aids in making a decision you're passionate about, instead of arbitrarily choosing a candidate because its aligned with a party.
I'm not sure if you were being serious in asking what the problem is because the rest of your post seemed to be sarcastic? In any event, my biggest problem with this (aside from just trying to deny people their right to vote) is that this seems (based on the information currently available) to be a move by a party that's scared a black dude is going to get reelected.
