Lecture Thread (For intellectuals)

[:1]I like to watch lectures online, many very interesting lectures can be found online and this is a thread to share interesting lectures.

Some of my own favorite subjects is religion, economics, science and math.

Edit: Doh found typo in the thread title, could a mod please fix it?|||Wrong forum? Looks Off Topic to me...|||Quote:

Tsk tsk, that wasn't very intellectual of you.

Also this is more of an OTF thing. I can't do anything about it, but eventually some mod will come online and move it. Give it a few hours.

In the meantime, I'll add some content, although they're not really lectures, more just.. informational videos.

A documentary on the sickening religious indoctrination of children, part 1 of 9:

Another documentary, by Bill Maher - Religulous, part 1 of 10:

An unofficial "commercial" for NASA:

Carl Sagan's Cosmos series, episode 1 of 13:

Biggest stars in space:

Size of the universe:

Neil deGrasse Tyson talking about the argument from ignorance:

Neil deGrasse Tyson on the space program, and how America "stopped dreaming":

Neil deGrasse Tyson (last one of him) on "stupid design":

Bill Nye the Science Guy on Fox News (this is just funny):

TED Talk - Sam Harris: Science can answer moral questions:

The Amazing Meeting - Julia Sweeney's "Age of Reason", part 1/4:

TED Talk - Jane McGonigal: Gaming can make a better world:

TED Talk - Bill Gates: Innovating energy in the future, and reducing carbon emissions to zero:

Carl Sagan - Pale Blue Dot:

|||Each of these people has lots of videos made. I've just chosen one from each, if you like what they say check out the rest.

A nice pick out of a funny, and yet very relevant, mindset to start with.

This guy has loads of good ways to present your outlook to another without getting ridiculed.

This guy tells you why people ridicule, how they go about it and also made a nice film with the guy from above.

Topical stuff from this guy but it does help make you consider lots of different perspectives.

This should help tide you over for a decent while.

-Art|||This one is interesting.

One hour long so get some popcorn.

|||Carl Sagan tribute series.

[why do people laugh at creationists (part 29)

That was brilliant. Piranhas are badass.

Also since it seems like the thread is taking that direction, another great resource for anyone wanting to turn to a belief system based on reality and logic, there is a public tv show based in Austin, Texas, geared toward a non-atheist audience. The show airs Sundays at 5:30pm, and episodes are posted online: http://www.atheist-experience.com/|||Quote:

That was a battle of who had poorer logic, the preacher or the atheist.|||Quote:

I have to say, starting the video off trying to show that bloodthirsty mindless piranha have morals even though they can't possibly believe in a deity, was pretty lame.

Though it was cool using a piranha as a tree trimmer.|||Remember... The atheist has to use logic that gets through to those who believe the preacher in the first place.
