Anyone been following this new show on AMC? I'm quite amused by it so far, though the pilot begins in a suspiciously similar fashion to the movie '28 Days Later'.
Looks like someone finally cashed in on the idea of zombies as regular weekly fodder, rather than the occasional movie and survival horror video game. I don't watch much TV but so far it looks to be worth staying with.|||Oh I didn't know the show had come out, I'll have to check it out...
The comics was great fun for the past few years, with a definite turn toward WTF recently.|||I like it so far. It looks to me like it will be a character-driven drama, though, which means you can count on certain folk eventually crying "soap opera" and saying it's not a "real" zombie flick. Starting like 28 is a good sign, because it's one of the better bits of zombie media out there, not being completely devoid of soul.|||Yeah...I'm hearing you with the 'soap opera' comparison. There's already a little bit of disturbing character clashing going on, best friend/wife/husband triangle nonsense that annoys me a bit. Hopefully they'll keep that minor and get on with the real stuff, humans vs. undead and all.|||Triangles kind of annoy me, a la LOST, but I'm saying that some zombie fans break out in rash at the first hint of character drama. There's a reason why most people don't take zombie media seriously. They tend to be camp and gore over all else. That's why I'm liking this series so far, because it's not that.|||Such a shame I don't have cable anymore. If it's as good as the comic book it's based on, you guys are in for a treat.|||

I really enjoy the series so far, better then some zombie movies I know.
AMC is showing the pilot streaming on their website right now; otherwise the series is easy to find across the net.|||Quote:

Huh...I had this vague inkling there was already a thread about this, but then I got lazy. My bad.
Anyway, I'll give the series a 9 out of 10 so far. After seeing only 2 episodes.|||Somehow, the series has already been approved for a second season.
Snip:
Quote:
Atlanta: more zombies are on the way.
After its monstrous opening of 5.3 million viewers last Sunday, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” was virtually a lock for a second season.
But AMC waited until the numbers came in for the second episode last night: 4.7 million viewers. That’s close to 90 percent retention, which is excellent, especially after all the hype for the debut episode. That meant the initial viewers liked what they saw and came back for more.|||So, this show's still rockin'. This week's episode, 5 of the season's 6, was the expected setup and character progression.
Spoiler
Lots of debate, tension, character stuff. There's movement, but not much combat. That's okay, though, since it's a character-driven show... not some straight-up zombie action schlock. Interesting "turn" (c whut I did...) of events in the wake of night time the zombie attack. We also get our first peek outside of the camp survivors.
I just wonder how Redneck boy has any crossbow bolts left, since he doesn't always reclaim 'em... Maybe he raided a Cabella's on the way to Atlanta. Also, why do some of them call the zombies "geeks?" I'm guessing it's something carried from the comic, but I don't really get it.
Another bit of trivia: The guy playing Grimes (Sheriff) is British. It's always odd to hear actors speaking with accents in interviews. (like Apollo from BSG)
